The Irish name of County Tipperary, Tiobraid Arainn, means Well of Ára.
The scenery of County Tipperary varies from river valleys, level plain, slanted hills to mountainous and is never boring.
The visitor interested in ancient history will be a disappointed, as there are no worthwhile ancient remains whatsoever. County Tipperary is paradise for the visitor interested in Christian and mediaeval history. Visits to both Cahir Castle and the Rock of Cashel are required for everyone visiting County Tipperary.
Our trip to the city of Tipperary in the spring of 2003 was not part of our schedule and it was definitely a long way. So by accident we entered O'Brians Pub in Tipperary Town. At that time and at that place we got definitely hooked on Ireland.
Two guys were playing and singing the those famous and familiar songs when they invited the audience to sing a song. A young girl came forward and sang The Fields of Athenry, one of the greatest Great Famine songs, and it was so beautiful. We still get goose flesh at the moment we write this.
It was not her voice neither the song that did it for us, it was the fact that a youngster, who should be preoccupied with hair styles, pimples and boy friends, still commemorates a coal-black era in Irish history.
Hence, thanks to this youngster, it is a pity we did not asked her name, this sites exists.
