All landscapes Ireland have to offer, except flat plains, are represented in County Leitrim, so if you desperately are looking for alternating scenery this is your county. There are bogs, rivers, lakes, meadows, which provide an excellent breeding ground for cattle, and mountains rich with coal and the ore of several metals.
County Leitrim is also one of parts of Ireland with the lowest population density, which can make your time there really relaxing.
County Leitrim offers some historical sites, among which an Ogham stone and several ruined castles or religious buildings, but its real attraction is the scenery. The landscape invites the visitor to walk through for example Derrycarne Wood, tour around the River Shannon or navigate on that river. The city Carrick-on-Shannon is the centre of the water sports in County Leitrim. Not remarkable when you realise that there are 41 lakes within a 10 kilometre range from the city.
On the rare occasions that the Irish weather is reaching beach-life-values you may enjoy the sandy beaches near Loch Allen.
