County Clare is created for visitors looking for outdoor activities, interesting geology, ancient archaeology and music.
The Burren, in the north-west corner of the county, is a unique desolated landscape with several interesting archaeological sites such as the Poulnabrone Dolmen. In the same region you can find the 200 meters high Cliffs of Moher, possible the most famous cliffs of Ireland, and the Aillwee Cave.
Without a doubt the Burren is the most extraterrestrial scenery you can walk in on earth.
With a wide variety of golf courses and the options for anglers, whether you like sea, river or lake fishing, the country attracts also appeals the sportive visitor.
Perhaps you have already been at the Temple Bar in Dublin to listen to traditional music before heading to County Clare. If you think that was the real traditional music you may have to reconsider your opinion after you have plunged yourself in the nightlife of Ennistymon, Doolin, Fanore or an other village. Just as you start to think that there will be no music tonight instruments appear and small groups of musicians starting to play in an informal atmosphere.
Keep in mind though that especially Doolin is famous for its musicians and they are attracting busses with tourists all demanding the same evergreens (Irish Rose, Danny Boy, Molly Malone you name it). So if you want a taste of real Irish music you might have to search for a while in the smaller villages.
A useful tip for music enthusiasts, whether traditional music or new age, is the Music Café in Doolin. They have a huge collection of CD's and songbooks on sale.
